Plan BE : Hack Your Flow State

According to positive psychologist Mihaly Csíkszentmihalyi, « flow state » is an “optimal state of consciousness where we feel our best and perform our best.” Getting into this state is now becoming an essential part of the programs I teach, to increase well-being, deepen purpose and improve how you show up in the world.

Csíkszentmihályi likens flow to ...being completely involved in an activity for its own sake. The ego falls away. Time flies. Every action, movement and thought follows inevitably from the previous one, like playing jazz. Your whole being is involved and you’re using your skills to the utmost.

Once we understand this optimal state of being we can hack it to achieve high performance in whatever we do and enjoy the many physical, emotional and mind-state benefits that accompany this state of being.

This teaching will be the core of our retreat program and you’ll learn from the perspective of neurosciences, our daily embodiment sessions of yoga and alpine walks, concentration and meditation practices and sensory awareness practices (of our 6 senses ie sound, taste, hearing etc). For example, we’ll train by using the Wim Hof Method of breathing to go into a 14°c thermal bath—for 2 minutes ! Or listen to and feel the vibration of sound through our bodies. Awakening to our senses and capacities brings us to the flow state.

Typical day

Up early at 7am because you slept 8 hours. Drink a large glass or two of the Valser water then open the door and step out onto your balcony. Breathe in the crisp, pure air. Move on to the thermal baths, a daily bathing ritual before our yoga practices. In the yoga room, with a stunning vista of the southern slopes start your yogic practice : a combination of gentle then dynamic asanas, breathwork and meditation. Brunch is a joyous moment to break the morning silence, share the meal and yourself : taking the time to savor the food and drink as well as the company. Afterwards, a time to be alone, journaling, reading or relaxing in the Blue Lounge. Everyday there will be a teaching on the flow state and how to adapt or adopt practices to yourself in order to achieve it. The early afternoon is slated for long walks along the alpine paths, often in silence with stops for sitting meditation practice in the nature. Afterwards, return to the 7132 for thermal baths, flow state practices and our evening meditation.

Valser Thermal Waters

The precious thermal waters of Vals are an important element in our week because this water re-mineralizes the physical body and soothes the mind. There are two nights of (optional) silent midnight bathing in the Therme--an experience not to be missed: under the stars, floating in the outside bath, the body warm and the air cold, living and being in silent celebration. Working all of our activities under the banner of Plan Be-ing we become grounded, understanding the importance of being present in our body and discovering our capacity to live in presence, in flow. Finally, there is time for doing nothing—only being. Listen to yourself and learn to take time tuning in to your innerself, awareness of the incredible natural surroundings, remembering you are inter-connected with Nature and everything around us, never separated.

The Spa at 7132, newly redone, Is there at your beckon call—massages, body treatments, facials etc and Is a compliment to our work. Deeply relax and take care of yourself. (I highly suggest you make reservations before arrival !)

This Plan BE retreat is for all individuals, no prior experience necessary, because everything is already there IN YOU. I help you find the key to your body & mind and you open the door. I teach and you learn through your experience—not from a book ! When we finish the week you’ll be able to do a suitable yoga routine and a 15 minute meditation on your own as well as have a good grap on how to hack your own flow state. I’ve taught over 15 retreats in Vals and numerous others around the globe. This is an amazing opporutunity to learn, grow, do, repeat ! Holly Niemela, Plan Be Wellness and Flow State Guide

Holly Niemela is a Paris-based consultant, teacher and speaker. Her expertise lies in the creation of wellness programs and retreats cultivated from awareness- based practices, the flow state and the initiation of wellness strategies into corporate cultures and to ensure the flourishing of the human being in all aspects of life.

After receiving a BS degree in political science from Northeastern University in Boston, Holly trained in yoga, meditation, mindfulness and various mind-body therapeutic practices. Ms. Niemela studied traditional yoga in India and France with Swamis from the Dashnami Order of Saraswati, established by the philosopher Shankara in the 8th century and still flourishing in India today. In 2002 she was initiated as a Karma Sannyasin in this Saraswati lineage.

With 30 years of professional experience, Ms. Niemela has become an ”ambassador of wellness” guiding individuals, groups and companies towards a better quality of life with her embodiment, mindfulness and emotional intelligence programs. She is one of 100 worldwide certified teachers of the Google leadership development program Search Inside Yourself, the unexpected path to success & happiness at work. In 2009, Ms. Niemela was part of the the first group of teachers to introduce and promote mindfulness in France with Jon Kabat-Zinn’s MBSR (mindfulness-based stress reduction) program

In recognition for her work in bringing emotional intelligence and meditation programs to the business world, Ms. Niemela was named by Challenges magazine as one of the 100 chances for France in 2017. For her this reflects the opportunity to help teach a new mindset within companies to help individuals flourish in the workplace. She believes it is even more important to bring these teachings to business schools.

Ms. Niemela was a featured speaker and teacher at the OECD Forum in 2016 and 2017. She taught mindfulness practices and spoke on topics such as Is technology fueling the empathy deficit ? 21st Century Skills, and Quality of Mind, Quality of Being .

Ms. Niemela has conducted internal training programs at international organisations such as AXA, Sodexo, SNCF Dirigeants, OECD, Randstad and CarlsonWagonLit—companies on the forefront of new ways of being and working within their organisations.

Anchored in neuroscience and evidenced-based research, Ms. Niemela’s conferences, programs and international retreats highlight how ancient practices can be adapted for our fast-paced, digital world to develop our inner connection to outwardly create, collaborate, and be compassionate human beings.

Investment for a week of training in Flow State/Well Being Plan BE

Plan BE Retreat @7132 Hotel : Including five nights in an individually designed room by the architect of your choice (Kego Kuma, Peter Zumthor, Tadao Ando or Thom Mayne) : each 20m2 room has a panoramic window view and balcony, delicious, full breakfast buffet, unlimited entry into the Therme Spa (with hamman and sauna) and exclusive usage of the yoga studio during our retreat, 5+ hours per day with Holly Niemela of teaching, guiding and accompanying Plan Be-ers. This price also includes all service charges. There is a Consumption Credit of 50CH per room, per night that you may use towards the 4 special dinners organised for our group (two at the Red Restaurant with a 3 course menu priced at 70CH, one à la carte in the Lounge and one at the Da Papa italien cantina).
